The Black Christian Movement in Britain is the fastest growing Christian sector in this country today. Black Christians belong to most churches, including historic ones like Catholic, Anglican, Methodist and Baptist; and this site aims to provide the most comprehensive listing of Black-majority and Black-led churches in the UK.
People of African heritage have lived in Britain since the Romans occupied this land. Their presence has increased significantly in the post-war epoch, particularly since the Windrush era: the late 1940s onwards. Since then Black Christianity has been a dynamic spiritual, social and political force in Britain with a striking presence in many inner cities. This is because migrant communities tended to settle mainly in the former industrialised areas like London, Birmingham, Manchester and Sheffield.
We estimate that there are approximately 500,000 Black Christians in the United Kingdom, the majority of whom live in London, England.
